Pack Light, Travel Ready: Your Island Crossing Bag

A small, well-organised day bag keeps the things you need close while your main luggage stays packed.

Pack Light, Travel Ready: Your Island Crossing Bag

Packing for an island crossing is less about bringing more and more about knowing where everything is. A useful approach is to separate your main luggage from a small day bag. Keep the things you may need at check-in or during the journey within easy reach.

Start with your booking essentials. Save your confirmation, reference number and the meeting-point instructions on your phone. Carry any identification requested for your booking. Charge your phone before leaving, and keep the cable or power bank you normally use somewhere accessible rather than at the bottom of a suitcase.

Build a simple comfort kit. A light layer, sun hat and sunglasses are easy to carry and useful during a travel day. A refillable bottle and a small snack can help you stay organised between connections; check any service-specific restrictions before boarding. Choose items you will actually use instead of packing for every possible activity.

Keep sensitive belongings together. Put your phone, documents and other small items in a suitable protective pouch, and close your bags securely. Give each traveller a place for their own essentials. A distinctive luggage tag can also make a plain suitcase easier to identify when travelling with a group.

Check before adding bulky extras. Luggage allowances and arrangements vary by service, so read the conditions for the trip you selected rather than relying on a general packing list. If you are bringing sports equipment or something unusually large, confirm the arrangements before travel. Finish by checking that your bag closes comfortably and that you can carry it without unpacking anything.
